David Beery

With more than twenty-five years of professional musical experience as a music educator, musical instrument manufacturer, performer, recording musician, and composer/arranger, David Beery’s life is all about music. A California native, David’s teaching method is to promote music in a fun and inviting way, unlocking each student’s unique musical perspective. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in percussion from California State University, Long Beach. Under the direction of the late Dr. Michael Carney, David performed for more than a decade with Dr. Carney's professional steel drum band, Pandemonium, and he also learned how to make and tune steel drums. David also taught steel drum band at North High School in Torrance, California for nine years and served as the acting band director there for four of those years. Since then, David launched his own business first manufacturing and tuning steel drums, and then handpans. He added ukuleles to the mix of offerings in 2005, as well as other island-style instruments. Throughout, David has continued to teach students the joy of learning how to play a variety of musical instruments, and his diverse experience allows him to offer teaching that is high-quality, motivational, and engaging.
